Natural Treatment for Anxiety, Insomnia, Depression and Mental Illness
If you are suffering from anxiety, depression or other mental illness then you are familiar with the ongoing cycle of medications that are sometimes helpful, sometimes take the edge off, and sometimes just the only option available to you. Many of my patients have come to me saying that the drugs allow them function, but that they don't feel like themselves and certainly don't feel like they would like to.
Natural methods of addressing mental illness are slow – the patterns of anxiety, depression, OCD, bi-polar, dysthymia and paranoia don't develop overnight and they aren't resolved overnight. Often we will use a combination of classical homeopathy, supplements, lifestyle changes and also mental exercises to help break anxiety and worry cycles or to pull yourself out of repeating thought loops. Mental exercises must be practiced at home and used repeatedly to have effect. Using a combination of methods it is often possible to return you a state of health with better tools and coping skills to use in the future in order to protect your mental balance.
Natural methods can be used in combination with your existing medications, or if you are not currently taking medications. Often patient want to get off of conventional pharmaceutical drugs, and that is a wonderful goal but it is important to do it the right way and to have some tools and skills to rely on in that process. It is important not to discard a support until you really don't need it any more, and not to just quit a drug without giving your body something else that will help you cope.
Insomnia is not typically thought of as a mental illness, but I find it often goes hand in hand with high anxiety levels or with depression and so all areas must be addressed at the same time. Insomnia also has a wide variety of physical causes such as nutritional deficiencies, hormone imbalances, metabolic changes and structural problems which must be addressed for proper sleep.
