This is a fast paced 12 week program to teach you how to lose weight, feel great and make changes for good. From day one you will start to make small step changes that add up to big weight loss. This is a method anyone can use to get on track to healthy weight and vibrant health. Not only that, the side effects are better blood sugar control, better numbers on your cholesterol tests, and better sleep.

Losing weight isn't easy. If it was, everyone would be thin. It also isn't hard if you know what you're doing. Learn to work with your body instead of against it and use your internal physiology to help you reach your goal. This isn't difficult, you just have to know what to do and I truly believe anyone can do it. In Skinny School you will have 12 weeks of baby steps towards a larger goal and 12 weeks to make real, long-term change. The weight keeps coming off long after the 12 weeks are over because you have learned to understand your body and work with it rather than fight against it.

We should all learn this in school, but we don't. Learn why you hold on to weight, how hormones change everything and what you can do about all of it. Why put all of that effort into losing weight if you're just going to put it right back on? Start now and make small changes that last for good.

Curriculum:

  • Week 1 – The Basics. Motivation, Health risks of obesity, types of body measurements and what they mean, setting goals for you, helpers and blockers, hydration, simple tricks, and speed eating.
  • Week 2 – Moving Forward. Blood sugars part 1, internal body safety, glycemic index, simple sugar balancers, food cravings, nutritional deficiencies, gut bacteria.
  • Week 3 – Emotions and Food. Easy happiness, what actually creates happiness, serotonin, dopamine, gluten, casein, pure emotional eating, carb basics, fat basics, fiber basics, protein basics, non-nutrients, nutrition labels part 1.
  • Week 4 – Food Sensitivities and Detox. Feeling toxic, falling off the wagon, food allergy vs. food sensitivity, the bucket theory, why food sensitivities affect weight, common symptoms, how to discover yours, addictions, toxins, why people quit weight loss programs, supporting your liver, why you can't lose weight if you stay toxic
  • Week 5 – Exercise and Blood Sugars Part 2. What exercise really means, our bodies aren't designed for the modern world, inactivity, choosing the body you want, small steps to activity, syndrome X, insulin, insulin resistance, insulin and weight, nutritional deficiencies, what you can do.
  • Week 6 – Exercise Part 2 and Sleep. Fidgeting, aerobic vs. anaerobic exercise, benefits of muscle, basic metabolic rate, what sleep is, sleep and health, sleep and your hunger signals, sleep stages, melatonin and cortisol, sleep apnea, finding balance.
  • Week 7 – Calories, Fiber and Nutrition Labels What is a calorie, accuracy of calorie measurement, soluble fiber, insoluble fiber, fiber for weight, hidden ingredients, practice with nutrition labels.
  • Week 8 – Appetite Control and Fats. Leptin, changing your leptin, ghrelin, influencing ghrelin, calorie counting basics, goals now, goals for the future, how you do it if you can't count calories, stair-steps, apple cider vinegar, saturated fats, monounsaturated fats, polyunsaturated fats, trans fats, omega-3, -6, and -9 fats, the bottom line.
  • Week 9 – All about hormones. The “E” word (that's 'estrogen'), fluctuations in weight, why fat and estrogen are linked, the Marilyn Monroe hormone, low vs. high estrogen, environmental estrogens, detoxifying estrogens, the cortisol connection, fat around the middle, stress response, cortisol and estrogen, stress reduction tips and techniques.
  • Week 10 – The Perils of Restaurant Food and Benefits of Fruits and Veggies. Ingredients make a difference, marketing strategy is leave full and come back for more, cooking oils, the psychology of hunger, sit-down meals vs. fast food, the calorie deception, getting the most out of restaurant food, benefits of fruits and veggies, antioxidants, bioflavenoids, enzymes, vitamins and minerals.
  • Week 11 - Fasting and Cleansing. Are you serious? Taking a metabolic break, cleansing safety, is this for me? Finding the right path for you and your health, the trouble with a cleanse in a box, fasting and blood sugars, why fast or cleanse?
  • Week 12 - The Naturally Skinny Lifestyle. Basic education is over and you're graduating! Here's the plan moving forward and what to do to make sure you keep losing and reach your goals.

How Naturally Skinny School Works:

By introducing small baby-step changes you can change your lifestyle in a gradual, permanent way. This isn't a “diet” - it's not something you do for a short while and then go back to the way you have always been. The bottom line with weight loss is that you've got to do different things to get different results.

Each class you will learn about your body and go home with one or two small changes to make that week. When we meet again we will talk about those changes and add to them. This is a slow, steady lifestyle change that makes having a healthy lifestyle easy – it lets you ease into it gradually so that it becomes habit. Ultimately you don't have to think about it, you automatically know what to do to take care of your body and to stay thin and healthy.

Attending Naturally Skinny School gives you access to complete notes, food trackers and other tools you can use moving forward. New classes start three times a year live, and webinars start once a month.

Is this the right choice for Me?

Everyone who is trying to lose weight has different goals and lifestyles. This is not a quick-fix program or crash diet. This is a long-term goal and long-term change program that can help you to set good goals and reach them over time. It isn't a short cut, it's the real thing. If you aren't interested in learning about your body, making positive changes and sticking to them then this program is not for you. If you just want to lose 5 pounds by next week but don't really care about after that then this program is not for you. This is designed for people who want to create permanent change.

What does this program not do?

This is not human growth hormone, stimulants, artificial anything or starvation. This isn't a gimmick or a quick fix, it's all about getting to your goal the right way. This is about learning to listen to your body and give it what it really needs – not in a general way, but in a way that is specific to your body. It's about eliminating hunger and cravings, boosting your heart health, controlling your blood sugars and normalizing your hormones. There is no short cut to great health and it shows. If there was an “easy” way to approach weight loss then none of us would have trouble with our waist lines, but if you look around you that clearly isn't the case. The point is that all the quick-fixes that people are paying for simply don't work.

How much does it cost?

The cost depends on which option you choose and how much personal care and attention you want. There is a perfect plan for any goal and budget.

Naturally Skinny School classes in person in Austin are $240 per person.

Naturally Skinny School webinars that you can attend from your home are $180

Do I have to buy and take lots of supplements?

In general, no. I prefer not to use a lot of supplements with my patients, but if you have a particular barrier like toxicity, hormone imbalance, blood sugar issues or insomnia then some supplements may be necessary. I like to keep this so a minimum, but there are some issues we just can't get around any other way.

Does insurance cover this?

Naturally Skinny School is not covered by insurance.

How much weight does the typical patient lose?

Every patient is different but with small steady changes we usually see half a pound to a pound of weight disappear each week (that's 50+ pounds a year!), and if you are especially motivated and goal oriented then we can see more. In general more than two pounds per week is not sustainable or healthy for the body and weight lost more quickly than that tends to also rebound back quickly. My clients also see a great shift in their blood sugars, cholesterol and blood lipids and often blood pressure.

Does this work for everyone?

This program works for everyone who is willing to make changes. It won't work if you just come for a weekly chat and don't change anything about your lifestyle, but I'm guessing you knew that already.
