Just to add to this post - If you want to use manuka honey for a medical purpose, you need to make sure it actually has active antibacterial properties. You can do this by looking for the UMF rating. Also, for MRSA and the like you would definitely want medical grade manuka honey such as the medihoney range.

I just found a great article about emotional eating on health.com - here's a great quote:

<i>Before you crack open the Ben & Jerry’s, though, do what Dr. May calls the "Four-Really Test": Ask yourself if you really, really, really, really want it. "Reach for something you don’t really want, and you’re likely to eat more of it because it isn’t satisfying," she says.

That’s the danger of answering a craving with a lighter version of what you want or with something else altogether. Not only does it defeat the purpose of giving yourself a gooey treat, but it sets you up for a pig-out. "If I’m not hungry, but I need a little pleasure in my life, isn’t it ridiculous to eat a rice cake?" Dr. May asks. "Not only do I not need that fuel, but it’s not even going to give me the pleasure."</i>

Here's a link to the <a href="http://www.health.com/health/gallery/0,,20471920_1,00.html" rel="nofollow">full article</a>

What I find incredible is that this JAMA article does not mention the fact that Progestins are chemically altered versions of Progesterone. Nor do any of news media articles mention Progesterone, the original human hormone that the drug companies are trying to copy. The synthetic copy is called a Progestin, an inferior, “monster” hormone that causes breast cancer. Progesterone is safe and effective, and more so than any of the chemically altered progestins. So why not use progesterone? None of the articles say this. I find this form of self-censorship to be astounding. Doctors reading this JAMA article are led to believe that Progesterone does not even exist. It does exist. It is even FDA approved at your local drugstore.

This Los Angeles Times article (October 10, 2010) explains the whole situation. Appears that the Brazilian Blowout people have been somewhat less than truthful. Because there are several other safe alternatives, I will not be using Brazilian Blowout.
